Begur Inscription in Kannada dated to 9th century reads, "Bengaluru kalaghadhol buttana setti sattam." It translates to English as "In the Battle of Bangalore, Buttana Setti died."
13th century "Vengalur" must have been of Hoysala reign given that King Bittidevan alias Vishnuvardhana ended the Chola control over Gangapadi in early 12th century itself.
